Frequently asked Questions

What happens in bad weather?
Don't worry! Weather very rarely affects your enjoyment whilst out on a charter. Only high winds means that a charter could be disrupted and on average, the UK's south coast suffers from fewer than 15 days of gales per year (mostly during the winter), and in the main holiday season of May-September, would normally have just one or two days at most affected by gales. If adverse weather is expected, we will contact you at least 3 days before to let you know that your charter could be disrupted, and will make a final decision no later than the day before the charter is due to start. Adverse weather is defined as high winds (with a Met Office or Coastguard 'strong wind' or gale warning in effect - Force 6 or higher), rough seas (normally governed by wind strength, or if the Coastguard's weather broadcast includes conditions of 'rough' sea state for the relevant inshore waters area), dense fog and/or very heavy rain. We use the Met Office's Shipping Forecast, the Coastguard's inshore waters broadcast and other sources as necessary to determine weather suitability.
Click here for pictorial examples of sea conditions to help you understand more fully how the weather may affect your charter. In the case of adverse weather resulting in the cancellation of the charter, we will offer you an alternative date. If a suitable date cannot be agreed you will receive a full refund. top
Do I have to bring my own towels etc?

No. All towels and bed linen are provided and are of the highest quality. top

What happens if there's a problem with the boat?
Our yachts are maintained to the highest of standards and we have never experienced mechanical failure which has caused disruption to a charter. However, in the unlikely event that something were to occur, if it doesn't affect your charter itinerary you will carry on. If it affects your itinerary but can be fixed relatively quickly the repair will be carried out at the nearest marina and your itinerary will be adjusted. If the problem is serious then the boat will be taken to the nearest safe haven and an alternative vessel will be sought. If you are not happy with this you will be refunded a pro-rata proportion of the charter fee, based on the remaining (unused) part of the charter at the time of any problem occurring. top
Is the cost of crew included?
Yes. top
What's included in the price?
All prices quoted by our reservation system are for the private use of the entire yacht. For charters including an overnight stay, the price includes private use of the yacht overnight. All prices include VAT (quotations provided directly to businesses do not generally include VAT unless stated) and all applicable taxes as well as the cost of a Captain and at least 1 crew member.
Also included is a daily fuel/mileage allowance to cover a passage of up to 50 nautical miles, with a limit of 4 hours making way under power ('operating hours'). Charters of 2 or more days can 'pool' daily allowances to allow for longer individual passages, as long as the combined totals are not exceeded. Excess mileage and/or operating hours are charged at a typical rate (for a 34' motor yacht) of £1.75/nautical mile or £20 per hour under power, whichever results in the greater amount. Actual mileage/operating hours' charges are detailed in your Charter Agreement and are applicable to the size of yacht being chartered.
Boats are available from 9.30am on the first day through to 5.00pm on the last day unless by prior agreement. Food, drink, any additional services such as limo pick-up, marina charges, harbour dues are all extra and payable by the Charterer upon request to the relevant authority. Example harbour dues are around £3 to £5 and are usually payable at anchor points when taking lunch. Examples of Marina charges are between £25 & £40 depending on the marina and size of boat. Note that marinas usually need to be booked in advance and we always try to reserve space at least 7 days prior to the start of your charter. In this case the cost of the marina will be charged to your chosen method of payment. Note that Special Events may have special inclusions or exclusions to those detailed here. top
What happens if I need to cancel?
You can cancel any time within 7 days from the date of receiving confirmation of your booking and receive back your deposit minus a small administration charge of £25 (plus VAT), so long as the start date of your charter is not within the following 28 days. If you cancel after these 7 days but before 28 days prior to the start of your charter, 50% of your deposit will be refunded - however any additional monies paid will be returned. Please note that if the balance payment is not received in full at least 28 days prior to the start of your charter, the booking will be deemed cancelled and no refund will be given under any circumstances. If you have paid in full and cancel within 28 days prior to the start of your charter, but more than 14 days before, a 50% refund of the total charter fee will be refunded. For cancellations within 14 days of the start of the charter, no refund will be given unless we are able to re-book the vessel for the same duration as your charter, in which case a 50% refund of the total charter fee will be given. top
Can I choose my exact boat?
You are able to choose the exact make and model of your boat, but not normally the individual boat in the fleet. For example, we have three Sealine S34s but we cannot guarantee that you will have a particular boat out of those 3. However we only have one Princess V42 so you will always be guaranteed the same boat! If this a particular requirement please let us know, we'll do our best to help you. top
Can I choose exact crew?
You are not normally able to choose crew. We have to have a flexible approach to crewing our boats to ensure we can fulfill the needs of every charter. However, crew do tend to stay with one particular type of vessel. If this is a requirement, drop us a line and we'll do our best to try to help. top
Can I charter bareboat ?
Yes, in certain circumstances. Certain of our boats are available for bareboat charter, subject to approval by the boat's insurers. There must be a skipper on board, qualified to RYA Coastal Skipper (Power) as a minimum, plus one other experienced member of crew. For bareboat prices and availability, please call us on 0845 020 4330. top
Can I bring my own food ?
Of course. Please be mindful of the fact that whilst all our boats offer full galley facilities, space is always limited - e.g. fridges are much smaller than at home (although some boats have 2 - check the boat spec.) and cupboard/locker space is limited. Also, ovens & hobs are smaller, so preparing a gourmet feast is always possible but can be challenging! top
Can I bring my children ?
Of course. Children are always welcome and will love the experience. Please let us know their age (if under 18), weight and height at least 7 days before your charter to ensure we have appropriate life jackets on board. Children must wear life jackets at all times. top
Do you take pets?
One small well-behaved pet that is used to the water can be taken on some boats. Please check with us first before booking. Pets must wear life jackets at all times and this will be charged as an extra. top
Do you need a security deposit?
We do not normally need a security deposit on crewed charters, but there may be circumstances when one is asked for. By signing our Charter Agreement (terms and conditions), you agree that we may charge you the cost of repairing any damage or replacing any breakage that you or a member of your party cause. top
Can I be assured of your discretion?
Absolutely, people want privacy and discretion for all sorts of reasons. We have a regular following of high profile clients who always tell us there's no better way of escaping the public gaze. We guarantee that under no circumstances will your booking details be disclosed to anyone other than yourself and we will always offer privacy and discretion as standard. top
Can I change the dates of my charter ?
You are free to amend the date of your charter up to 28 days prior to the confirmed start date. Each amendment will attract a £25 (plus VAT) administration charge. If you wish to change the date within 28 days of the charter start date you may do so if the new date is before your original date for a fee of £25 (plus VAT). However, if the new date is after your original date a fee of 50% of the original total charter fee will be charged in addition to the cost of the new booking. Please note that under no circumstances can the date be changed within 14 days prior to the start of your charter. If you need to change the date please let us know as soon as you can - we always try to be flexible but please remember the 14 day deadline. top
